I could be totally wrong here but I installed 10.3 on a beige G3 266 (ADB ports and all) and was even able to get a Stylewriter 1200 printer to work using CUPS (using xpostfacto). It also supported an external modem.
Of course using modern Macs under 10.3 is NEVER a problem. It only becomes a problem when you try to continue using old world Macs to do the things that were designed to work on new world Macs.
I know a lot of you are resistant to change and will continue using your Blue & White G3's well into the next century....so, I'll shut up now.

I have just upgraded my B&W G4 to 10.3 (from 9.2) and am surprised to find
that the adb port works. I thought this was abandoned by Apple.

Are you nutz?
Apple has been intentionally ripping support for legacy hardware OUT of OS X.
Don't remind them that this is still there!!!!
:)
Exterminate all rational thought.
