Greetings all,
I have a vexing problem that I suspect may not have a solution.
I have put a second hard drive in my kids 8500 with OS 9.1 that I cannot get to mount at start up.
It is a reconditioned SCSI 80 pin Seagate # ST32550WC with a 80 to 50/68 pin adapter. I got both from MacresQ.
I have followed the suggestion sheet they sent with them, tried various other configurations such as placing in the SCSI chain, motor start and delay jumpers, finally installing a SCSI PCI card and hooking it to that, I have set up the drive with Apple Drive Setup, then Hard Disk Speed Tools 3.5.
Either of these utilities will mount the drive but once you shut down the computer you have to start up one of those utilities to mount the drive again.
This would be a potential disaster to ask my kids to do this each time they use that computer.
All the normal stuff has been checked: SCSI ID's, Connections seated, even different SCSI cable, a different branded (although visually the same) 80 to 50 pin adapter, with and without "motor" jumper on the drive and on the adapter.
What have I missed?
TIA,
Tom
