All the normal stuff has been checked: SCSI ID's, Connections seated, even different SCSI cable, a different branded (although visually the same) 80 to 50 pin adapter, with and without "motor" jumper on the drive and on the adapter.
What have I missed
If you use drive setup can you open it, see the volume and select the menu option to mount the volume?
If you can then you probably need to make sure the option to auto mount the volume is selected when you use the utility to create the volume. The option to have volumes auto mount should be available in any disk formating utility you use.
