*What kind of termination do you have on the SCSI chain ? Sounds like a termination issue to me.
When I had it on the same chain as the startup drive it was in the middle and terminated by the other drive which was at the end of the chain.
I tried them reversed with the S/U drive un-terminated, that produced no start up at all. If I left them in that same position with the S/U drive terminated it ran normally albeit the adapted drive couldn't be found.
Currently, the S/U drive is on SCSI bus '0' and working normally, SCSI bus '1' is not used.
The adapted drive is on SCSI bus '2' which is the SCSI PCI card. It is terminated by a cable with a built in terminator at the end.
According to the "Tips for 80-Pin Drives" sheet that was sent with these drives: "This is a 16-bit device, and that adapter only terminates 8 bits. You need to put another device behind it to take care of the other 8 bits."
Which is what I have tried doing.
Now my brother says that the only way he could get the 80 pin drive to work in his 8500 was to put it at the end of the chain. He got his adapter from OWC.
I would like to avoid buying a whole bunch of adapters just to get this drive to work as that would become cost prohibitive real fast.

Thanks, I tried that in both of the utility's I have used to set up this drive. For some reason they are unable to cause the mount to happen automatically.
I can mount the drive manually with either utility and then I seem to have full access to it.
It will remount it I 'restart' but if I shut down its back to a manual remount with a utility.
Thanks, Ron and Bill.
