PINE is a UNIX app. This list is for the following:
G-List exists as a forum for users of Power Mac G3, G4, and G4 Cube computers. Because of our "once removed" rule, occasional discussion of PCI Power Macs and clones is acceptable but discouraged.
The above listed computers running Mac OS. We as admins have to be careful about conversations of other OS's. Linux for example runs in more than one flavor on Mac's, but Linux topics are not open for discussion here. I am not killing this thread, but please don't let it go on too long. Topics that involve Pine and Pico or Fink etc are still considered OT here as they are Not Mac OS X Native APPs.
I'm sorry, I'm a bit confused here.
Mac OS X is Darwin with a fancy GUI added. Darwin *IS* Unix. *ALL* of the applications that run under Mac OS X, as long as they don't wrap themselves in Classic or Virtual PC, *ARE* Unix based apps.
Furthermore, Mac OS X suffers from a derth of software! There are, what, 100x more apps for the classic Mac OS? And 1000x more for *cough* that other platform?
IMO, we should *encourage* conversation about *all* apps that run on Mac OS X.
Yea, so pine doesn't use Apple's soul, er a CPU -sucking GUI, aka Aqua - big deal! It's still a perfectly good email client. Just like Eudora, Green, Magellan, Mulberry, Musashi, PowerMail, Outleak, etc. And it's one of the most used ones on the planet!
I think you hit the nail on the head when you said:
99% of the people here have no idea what you are talking about
We need to *educate* the members of these lists. Give them a better idea of what's out there, of what their Macs can do!
Or... Maybe you should redo these lists? Make them hardware issues -only-. Create a new set of lists for software?
FWIW, - Dan.
