Sorry for the messy original post... My Badd... A few slip by from time to time...
> FC? Really? I kindof like Firewire and USB myself. Put the external drives on knicknak shelves, strewn around the wall, each with their own guardian gnome on top. Hang tinsel (or cobwebs) off the long cables. For industry... FC is the way to go... For the home user - FireWire! I have not meet any home user that needs a 2 gig per second transfer rate for external disk. I have been soo impressed with firewire in the Mac and PeeCee worlds. Move an external DVD player, CD Burner and DVD Burner around like lego. No Reboots!!! I don't have any USB 2.0 devices so I can not comment. From the reviews of Firewire and USB 2.0 I don't think USB 2.0 is as efficient as Firewire but I have to factual evidence... > Why? Aren't external terms more expensive than internals? Or are they that much more reliable? Just call me an old timer... Just the other day I had to install Resistor Packs on a 2 gig SCSI drive to use internal termination. With internal termination you have to be careful about what device has termination enabled on... Swap a couple of scsi disks around to trouble shoot a bug... You always remember to check the SCSI IDs but do you always check - Internal Termination, and SCSI BUS Terminator Power jumpers? I need to SEE... Something to believe IT... I always prefer ACTIVE External SCSI terminators, spent too many nights trouble shooting intermittent SCSI bus errors to even think of trying something else. (Ex Field Engineer for a large External Storage Vendor, Tape, Disk, Solid State Disk, High Speed Printers) Another good piece of advice. High Voltage Differential SCSI has a maximum cable length of 25 Meters (or is it 20 Meters) but you must minus about 3 feet per connector (just short of a Meter). Never use a full 25 Meter cable to connect an external device... You will be sorry... I don't think most Mac users have to worry about 20 Meter Differential SCSI Cables, that's just a hunch... -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
