Wellp...

Booting into OS9 CD, then resetting it to boot off of hard disk: Was
supposed to work but didn't, still got the question mark.
Thought I'd try somethin' elst... dusted off an old cd of DiskWarrior, which
boots up into OS9.  Ran it to rebuild the directory.
That was at 5:00.  It's now 9:00 and it's still cranking.  It's presently on
step 6 of 11, says it has detected 578 overlapped files (so far, and I know
it's still working because that number's still growing)

Meantime, I cleaned off a spare Maxtor 80 in case I have to start over.
