Hello Mac Friends, I have a G4 500MHz "Sawtooth" that I have just upgraded from 256MG RAM to 768, and have ordered another 512 to max it out. I bought it not quite 2 years ago used, and love it. The G5s look of course fabulous but are in no way in my budget!
My question now is about upgrading the CPU, with either a Sonnet module or OWC Mercury Extreme. Money is a consideration, and I'm only able to spend in the $250-$330 range right now. Would an upgrade of this level offer me *noticeable* speed increase? Primarily I am using Photoshop, Illustrator and Pagemaker - in OS 9.2. I am not really a gamer (though I might be as time goes on, and my husband certainly would be, though he is not a Mac person <gasp>) It seems from researching online that the Sonnet and the OWC products are the same - don't they both come with everything in the package (i.e. heat sink, etc) so that the swap is easy to do - even for a beginner? Any words of wisdom when making this choice? I've been trying to read the actual user reviews of these products but wanted to ask the "live" people here on this list.
