There is a big difference between supported configurations and useable 
configurations.

There is no reason why the Sonica device wouldn't work on a PCI/USB card. As 
far as it is concerned, they are the same. However, the company doesn't want to 
necessarily support such an 'old' machine. Companies (including Apple) tend to 
use the 'native USB' moniker to easily divide newer and older machines. If you 
know what you are doing and aren't afraid of not getting any technical support, 
I'd go for the Sonica box.

If you want technical help just in case, then I hope someone has an idea that 
will work for you.
