iCab under OS 9.1 is very stable for me, but it is slow and there is a lot it won't do. For example, I can't log into my bank account's website with it, because I get a message that it doesn't support 128 bit encryption.

Make sure you're running the latest iCab - 2.9.8.

Yes it is 2.9.8.

iCab's preferences, Network, Internet Protocols. Make sure all the encryption levels are checked.

Thanks, IDEA and DES were not checked. Has now been rectified.

Also, a lot of websites that are designed to display images and text horizontally in a single window, will display all these items in a long vertical band on the left of the screen. One has to scroll several pages down to see it all.

This is a CSS issue. To be addressed in iCab 3.

I don't know if that is due to some preference I have set, but I often have to launch Internet Explorer 5.1.7 in order to use some sites.

This is why iCab is BETA software. And why many of us supplement it with Mozilla. :)

I am convinced IE is responsible for the bulk of my crashes. Ever since I began launching IE only when I really had to, and then quitting as soon as possible, my crashes have been reduced to less than 10% of what they used to be.

Yup. Try Moz instead. Then maybe you'll be microcrud free.

Unfortunately, Mozilla won't work on OS 9.1 which is the end of the line for my 8500/G3.

      Thanks for all the info.
