what, if any, harm could I do by powering my powerbook with the charger for my ipod?
I've got a firewire charger which runs off my car cig lighter, and was wondering if anything bad could happen from running the power to the laptop thusly.
Possibly nothing, possibly you would fry the motherboard.
It's certain you would NOT be able to power your powerbook from it.
Your powerbook is designed to get power from the power jack, NOT the firewire port; it also takes higher voltage and considerably higher current than your iPod uses.
You can get auto power adapters for powerbooks <http://www.smalldog.com/product/38963>
