Hey folks,

About 8 months ago I upgraded my trusty B&W with an XLR8 G4 ZIF. Now I've
heard conflicting reports regarding the use of the L2 cache. Some say that
I need the XLR8 Mach Speed Controller in order to activate the L2 cache.
Others say that the B&W model and above DON'T need the controller because
they automatically access the L2 cache on the ZIF. As well they say that
sometimes these controllers can cause more conflicts with OS X than
benefits.

Do I need the controller (i.e. Software) for my ZIF or do I just trust my
B&W in handling the L2 cache on it's own? The weird thing is in Jaguar
without the controller software, the L2 cache in System profiler didn't
register anything for it. However in Panther, without the XLR8 MSC
software, system profiler lists my L2 cache as 1MB.

BTW on a side note I did notice kernal panics on bootup when I installed
XLR8 MSC on Panther. I actually had to do a clean install because even
after removing the thing completely I was still getting the crashes. So far
with this new clean install without ever having installed XLR8 MSC, Panther
has been running great.

I am currently running Panther (10.3.5) with 768MB of RAM.
