DVD-ROM drives in Beige G3s are a bit of a prickly issue. The stock
video in them won't decode DVD video without some help. Either you
need an ATI PCI video card with the attached decoder from a B&W, or
you need a retail ATI Radeon 7000 or 9200 PCI video card.

As for compatibility, check the drive compatibility database at
xlr8yourmac.com. For DVD burners, Pioneers are always a good choice,
as that is what Apple mostly uses as their "SuperDrives". Less
frequently they use Sony drives.
