I have 3 machines networked via a switch. The network has been up and running for a few years with no problems.

Machines:
PM6500 running 9.x
Yikes! G4 running 9.x
FW800 G4 running OS X

The Yikes & FW800 share my desk with a USB switchbox.

The PM6500 is downstairs.

2-3 system updates ago (OS X), I suddenly had a hard time connecting to the FW800 from the other two machines upon a reboot. It would take a few minutes to give me the dialog box to log into the machine, and if I did enter my password it says the connection is broken. When I hit cancel, the machine will "freeze" for 4 minutes and come up with the same box. This will go on for over an hour. Or I can leave the machine alone for an hour or two and it will be fine when I look at it later. I can attach via the network browser just fine though.

I finally got the smart idea to reset all my switches and that seemed to do the trick for awhile, but it's back again. As I need to do some work on one of those machines, it's a little frustrating! :(

Anyone deal with this before, and barring that, how do I get it not to look for the other machines on boot so I can manually attach?

FWIW, I can attach from the fW800 machine to the others just fine.

TIA,

Diane
