I really screwed it up this time. I found the offending moved files where
Bruce thought I would--on my OS X partition. Got rid of them and things
worked fine. Then I tried to do it again, being careful to type things into
Terminal exactly. This time it copied everything, repeatedly, into an
invisible file "volume" on the OS X partition. I can't get rid of it because
it is invisible--I tried doing a sherlock search from OS 9 but it wouldn't
let me trash the offending files when I found them. I can't boot into X
because in the log in window it won't recognize my password (I never had to
log in before, since I was the only user). I booted from the OS X CD and
repaired permissions. I tried to change the password from there, but it told
me there were no users, though a search showed my normal user id still
there. Wait, there's more--now my partition with OSX does not show up. When
I start up in 9 it tells me the drive is unreadable and do I want to
initialize it (no). Now what can I do? I'm booted into OS 9 to write this.

Thanks,
Bonnie
