Sometime back I bought a 56k faxmodem from who-knows-who on the swap list. I've yet to get it to work.
It's a 56k faxmodem, Sportster variety. I hooked it up, selected the high-speed option on the modem control panel (the universal wouldn't work at all), and it connected to my ISP.
Everything seems hunky dory, but I can't call up any websites.
Enable verbose logging in the Remote Access control panel. Verify that the PPP connection was fully initialized and that your Mac was able to obtain a valid IP address, hostmask, gateway address, and DNS IPs.
Use a tool like IPNetMonitor or WhatRoute to ping yourself, your gateway, and your DNS IPs -- to verify that your basic IP connectivity is working. Then translate a few names to IP addresses, to verify name translation is working.
