Did you enable a password on the router? The default is usually no password
required to connect. Some routers have trouble with collecting passwords
from Macs via Airport. I believe under ASCII encryption you might have to
add quotes around the password on some models. My US Robotics router
required me to use HEX encryption as it wouldn't accept ASCII passwords.

Use the wired Mac to access the router to check if WEP encryption is enabled
and to see what the password is. The Router should be accessible via your
favorite browser.
