is it an apple drive?  if not it won't mount unless you boot with a bootable 
disk in the drive (one
that has the "universal apple driver on it) or use a generic cdrom driver.  
there is a hacked
version of the apple driver as well as third party drivers.  the hacked apple 
driver just bypasses
the check that the drive is "apple" and works with all but a very few drives.  
i'd be happy to email
you a copy of the hacked driver or resexcellence.com has the instructions to 
resedit the standard driver.
