I'm pretty sure in order to use "cable select" settings on your drive you have to have a special "cable select" cable, or am I misinformed?
Quite correct.
If you don't have the cable and try to use cable select I don't know for sure what happens but It can't be that both drives would work right.
The OP needs to use Master on one and slave on the other drive unless they have a special cable. Unless you know otherwise, assume the cable is normal. I think you can use manually selected Master and Slave with a special cable and still have it work okay.
