 are specifically designed for a 100 MHz bus and will not work
 properly in the
 beige G3.

This is probably not true. Their 'rated speed' may be predicated on a
100 MHz bus, but a Zif is a Zif is a Zif, afaik.

For a while, I was running a 450 G3 ZIF (more than likely for a B&W) in a beige with no problem even overclocked to 500. I now have the same ZIF in my B&W running at 500 and it operates fine and it sure beats the 350 that was in it and overclocked to 400. I haven't ever been around a G4, though I would like to try one someday in my B&W, but the firmware must be updated to allow it.
