While "OS X: The Missing Manual" is good--good for using as a door-stop, the thing is HUGE. With all the reading that I do, it's just too much. The suggested "Learning Unix for Mac OS X Panther" by O'Reilly Press is a much better choice. It's 156 pages plus the index for a total of 168 and basically covers what you need to know. Plus it's only $20.00. The Missing Manual is a good reference to have on hand but I don't think the average user wants a 6000 page tome to have to refer to every time you have a question....especially when you can ask it here.
