Greetings, G-Listers:

I'm new to this list, but have already learned much by just lurking.
Especially from the recent thread about OS 9 versus OS X.

I have a G3 All in One "Molar" with 160 MB of RAM and a 4 GB HD running OS
9.2.2. I've purposely avoided moving up to System X for various reasons --
the expense of installing extra RAM and maybe a new hard drive, my phobia
about "learning" new operating systems, and so on. I'm now thinking about
replacing Monstah with a nice new obsolescent G4 iBook with Panther on it
(the pre-Christmas sales are really tempting), but am content to stay
completely in Classic mode until then.

I've run systems 8.1, 8.6, 9.0.4, and 9.2.2 on this machine. Eight-point-one
was a disaster. The middle two, 8.6 and 9.0.4, were OK, and 9.2.2 I'm just
getting to know. I've no experience with 9.1.

So I just thought I'd ask a question which may have been settled long ago on
this list (and is probably too general to really ask anyway, but WTH):
Does anyone have any thoughts on what Classic OS is least troublesome and
most productive on a G3 AIO which is NOT also running System X? Or is there
so little functional difference between them that the question is academic?
