I have a G3 minitower 266 mhz and no matter what I did I couldn't get any USB over 1.0 or 1.1 (whatever the designation is for the older USB) to work. I have a Revision 2 ($77D.45F1) G3. Any old USB 1 card will work, doesn't have to be Mac-specific. Yes upgrading to 9.2.2 is the way to go, too. I was stuck on 8.6 for the longest time but 9.2.2 is much better.
