Yes, it can.
You might want to try the tryout version of Sound Studio, www.felttip.com it is fully functional for 15 days (yes, 15 actual days you use it, not 15 days from the time you install it) I have full versions of both. You can import in with quicktime translation in SS. Very easy to use, excellent program. QT can do it, but I feel SS does it much better. That is what I use to produce a radio program from live recordings.
It accesses all the Quicktime codecs and you don't need the license for quicktime to be alive. Just full install of Quicktime to get all the Codecs.
