Instant DVD can be achieved with a dvd recorder hooked up to the mac via
the s-video port of a graphics card (quality may very from card to card) and
the sound out port hooked up to the recorder via a miniplug>two rca splitter
audio cable. I successfully recorded real time full screen sequences of
iTunes visualizer with certain pieces of music put to specific visualizer
presets into a Philips dvd+r recorder using dvd+rw media. Quality and
anamorphic framing were a big problem when it came to streaming these vobs
to dv for import into Final Cut. The quality problem was solved by using a
Zinwell 2000 scan converter between the mac and the recorder and the
anamorphic frame was simply removed by an overall pan in Final cut.
Another advantage of the Philips recorder is the option to record in
three quality modes - High Quality, Standard and Extended play allowing for
1hr, 2hrs and 4hrs respectively on 120min media. The quality modes refer to
framesize with full frame dv (768x580 ? odd) being high quality. Finished
sequences were exported from Final Cut as QT movies (very big files) and
imported into DVD Studio Pro to make a finished DVD. All done in PAL by the
way.
