I'm not subscribed to the imac list but I hope somebody here will be able to help me. I found an imac at the back of one of the cabinets in my classroom. It's white with a round bottom. Apparently somebody had installed system 9.2 since on startup the computer crashes with the OS 9.2 startup box on the screen, with the dialog box saying 'The system Software on the startup disk only functions on the original media, not if copied to another media.'Restart. The problem is that I have no access to the cd drive; the regular imac keyboard or mouse seems not to be working on this computer - they both work on a regular imac. What I want to do is have access to the cd rom drive so that I can install a different OS. How does one open the cdrom drive in this imac? There are no buttoms or anything for me to press so as to open the cdrom drive.
This is what happens if you drag the System Folder from the installer CD to the HD. Is this an LCD iMac? With the power off, try the poking a paper clip into the hole near the tray. Pull it open, remove any CD in the drive and insert your CD. Then shut it and power up.
