Yes and no to your question. On a Beige G3, OS X will only install on a partition smaller than 8GB, however, it will still recognize the rest of the disk if you partition it in one big chunk and it will be usuable. This only effects the onboard ATA for the most part and many ATA controller cards bypass this issue.
