XPF does not run on any new world machines, it's old world only. New world support may come in the future, but probably not anytime soon.



I mentioned that, as well as my rationale for not calling it 'booting'. You're not booting the computer from the firewire drive, you're booting from the internal, and handing over the os loading to the firewire drive.

If you don't believe this, remove the boot sector from your internal drive and see how well this works.

You are technically correct that the boot is "from the internal drive", but once the early process completes the computer IS booted from the Firewire drive. You can unmount the helper drive completely. The whole system functions fine from the FW drive only, nothing else mounted. You can reformat the helper, or do whatever. The key is that you need some bootable internal drive to be able to run XPF to enable FW booting.
