allthough I am relatively new to the apple world, I have been dealing with
enterprise servers and such for awhile. Seems that the hard disk has always
been the largest barrier regarding high end performance. Whether the drive
is ultra ata, scsi ultra wide or whatever, the limiting factor is rarely
the bus it is attached to. I unsure of the exact specifications of the mac
mini's drive, but I do know that it is a 2.5 inch laptop variety. These
drives have always been a notch below the standard drives and seem to spin
slower, have less cache and longer seek times.

I use a PowerBook G4 Alu 15" for everything, incl. Photoshop and the funny thing is that more and more people do, so I personally doubt the 2.5" disk is a problem...
