Hi all,
I used to have jerky DVDs on my 300 Mhz beige MT under
OSX even with a Radeon 7000 PCI-card.
If you use VLC-player you should use an older version.
The versions from 0.7 on up drop frames on slower
machines. Since I use version 0.6.2 I get good smooth
video but I also had to switch off QuartzExtreme, I'd
used a hack that enables QE for the Radeon card.
I didn't really see much difference after I switched off
QE anyway.
When there's a lot of action in the film the Apple
DVD-player under OSX will also drop some frames so I
switch to OS9 mostly to watch movies. But some films I
get from friends are in different formats (like DivX) and
VLC-player plays them all ...
If you want to watch DVDs under OS9, there's also a hack
to get the Apple DVD-player to work with non-apple
drives. Good luck!
Jrg.
