There is probably a simpler way, but what I've ended up doing (2) possibilities.

(1) drag item to the desktop temporarily, then change view area of folders to expose the desired area, drag from desktop to desired folder.

(2) have 2 copies of the primary folder open at the same time.

They both work, just not real elegant.

As it's been spelled out so clearly I just have to bring up the fact that this is one of the few areas where the Mac's GUI actually lags Windoze, and has done ever since Windoze 95.

Explorer!

Windoze Explorer (not IE) has a much better interface for working
with files and nested folders.

I did try Macintosh Explorer (third party shareware) some time ago
and was unimpressed, but it has been further developed so I'll give
it another try.

Also, in Windoze one can right click and "Cut file", not just Copy
file as in OS X. This would also solve the problem.
