Agreed, there was a bad batch of those Deskstars, especially the 40 gig models, a friend of mine had one in it's B&W G3, it died just out of warranty. I recently bought a 250GB/8MB Hitachi HD which looks exactly like that Deskstar model. Those Maxtors are indeed very cheap now, I've had good and bad results with this brand, my Diamond Max 9 models are still chucking along in my server in a RAID config.
