Im running all mirror drives. Raid 1 = Mirror Drives Raid 0 = Striped Drives
Ive played around with Raid 0 for my photo shop images. But if you have a problem with either drive ALL data is lost. I did this a few times by accident. If I were going to stripe 2 drives Id also have a 3rd drive that All the data from the raid were backed up to on a daily basis. As far as mirror drives, Ive had no problem restoring a raid from having 1 drive go bad. My G3 Beige case ate a few ATA cables and each time it brought down my raid. You just slap in a fresh drive and rebuild the mirror. You need a separate HD controller for each drive in the raid. So it requires an pci controller card. Mine are all software controlled raids. Im using the Panther raid feature with no problem. I also use SoftRaid with OS9 & 8.6 and it works great. Have never tried a hardware raid.
