Have you tried the other panaceas?

1.  Zap the PRAM

Does the monitor show any sign of life during the boot up process?  Any dip 
switches on the adapter like the old Mac to VGA adapters?

Good luck, never tried this kind of thing when I had a 7300, Yikes, and both 
types of monitors.
