I stay away from such drives. I bought one months ago which brought me nothing
but headaches, here is a message I wrote to another G-lister who asked a
similar question about 20 days ago:

"I tried installing an 80pin SCA drive with adapter (to 68pin and 50 pin), the
drive was only $20 (+$10 ship), but the adapter and the jumper were the most
ridiculous full $30 + $10 s+h after all the directions I had to follow and time
it took (well I tried for two weeks) after all the fiddling I had to give it
up, didn't work, only OS 9 could see it, was not able to format it at all, it
kept saying the device was not ready even though I bought it new. I sold it,
lost $20, I don't recommend SCA drives, if you are not experienced (and I
thought I was!) don't go there, please!

I have a G3 333 beige, I should know"

The message title was: "New to list with questions"

This was the original message that I can't find in the maclaunch server:

<<Hi all,

I have a G3 Beige Desktop powermac. I would like to add a scsi drive.
It has a connection at the back of the motherboard for a 50 pin scsi. I
have a slot available just above the Zip drive and next to the floppy
drive. What is the largest drive I can use? Can I use a later 68 or 80
pin drive with an adapter? There is not much room so I wonder if this
is possible.>>

Good luck brother, honestly I wouldn't get into that expense and problem over
again. I forgot to mention, the guy who sold it to me gave me directions on
how to set it up... no luck. By the time I gave up the 30 days after purchase
warranty had ended :( I ended up spending more than if I had purchased a
68-pin (which eventually I had to buy it, turned out to be cheaper in the long
run).
