A quick question, will this drive work on a beige using 80-50 pin adapter (also listed on this web >page), using the built-in SCSI interface?

Yes, but: it's a full-height drive, which means you can't put it in just any bay. Depending on you OS you may need Charismac or other 3rd party driver. OWC used to provide Anubis Charismac with their SCA drive purchases, but now they have no cheap drives left. Maybe there's the Cd on their clearance page, though.

Also, the adapter adds almost an inch to the back of the drive, which means that it has a hard time fitting into some bays, there's not enough room behind the drive.

I got one of these for an 8500 recently, I'll have to install it with sticky backed velcro, it won't fit on the sled and still fit in the bay. I might be able to drill extra holes in the sled and have it fit.

I didn't work hard to make it fit yet, as the drive these guys sent me won't spin up. They are going to send me another, but the jury is still out.

HTH. And Doug, I don't know why, but the phrasing of your "just a message from Doug" byline always reminds me of the old Far Side cartoon, where the guy is hiding behind the tree, stalking the postman, with the yard sign "Beware of Doug". :)

Many thanks for all the replies, I typed this in a hurry last night before I went to bed and left out a bunch of stuff. My "beige" is actually in a converted PC mid-tower case and there is plenty of room for the drive and any kind of adapter. I would like to use this drive to get around the <8Gb IDE rule for use with 10.3.x. Will probably keep a smaller IDE in the system for 9.2. I have Silverlining Pro 6.1, will this work if I need a driver? I know I used to use if on my PM7200 with my Syquest cart drive. I have not ordered the drive and/or adapter yet, I still have some work to do to yet another PC case as I was not all that pleased with the first one I tried.

As for my sig line, I can't remember who I stole... er borrowed it from, but I always thought it to be rather simple and to the point. I'm thinking of changing it to one I saw stamped on a package at the post office yesterday. There for all the world to see were the words proudly proclaimed, "Let me know if you don't receive this". Kind of says it all doesn't in gang!

BTW Brian, I have 4 of those huge Seagate 50 Gb FH 5 1/4" SCSI drives mounted in a server case used as the file server for my LAN. Naturally they are in another room! And do keep me posted as to your progress with the SCA drive when/if you get it from softwareandstuff. Which adapter are you using? I have an Adaptec PCI SCSI card in my B&W that I could use if need be.
