It SHOULD be possible to make 'backup' copies of things on the boot disk, without all this 'hoop jumping'.
fire up terminal, do 'man ditto'
Carbon Copy Cloner is an applescript+GUI wrapper around the ditto command.
I say 'hoop jumping' because I booted from a DIFFERENT HD, logged in as 'root', and still got the 'permissions' error.
What file is triggering the error?
