Any lcd that has a vga connector (not DVI, unless you have upgraded to a pci video card that has a dvi connector) will work with your beige as long as you have enough vram for the resolution and have a Mac to VGA adapter. If you currently have a Sony, you probably have the adapter.
That being said, you can pick up a nice 19" or 21" crt for less than the equivalent screen size in a lcd.
