> I installed update OSX 10.3.8, repaired permissions afterwards (got
 some
notice about new permissions for cd9660.fs/cd9660.util set to 33261 and
about -rwxr-xr-x, when needed I have a screenshot of all this).
The update didn't do it, still no reading of audioCDs, except for one I
just burned today in iTunes (huh ???).

I suspect that those file may be messed up. Those files are drivers for the CD; an archive&reinstall may be in order.

The special permissions message for cd9660.fs etc. seems to be the standard Panther repair permissions message. I get it every time I repair permissions, and I haven't had any problems so far. According to the Feb. issue of MacWorld, this is not an issue.
