Check out: <http://www.cdrfaq.org/> CD-RW is an off-shoot technology and is generally regarded as less dependable than -R. It's favoured in an environment where a rigorous (perhaps daily alteration) back-up regimen is in place (so *if* a disk were to go bad you'll only be a day (?) out in catching-up). The individual disk is not intended for long-term storage. They are also used where 'test' disks are routinely required. So - for incremental daily (weekly?) back-ups and test writing, sure. For long term archival purposes, no. I'd also suggest that CD-R's be routinely reburned. Difficult to imagine how they justify claims of a 50 - 100 year shelf-life on a 25 (?) yr old technology.
