CD-RW is an off-shoot technology and is generally regarded as less
dependable than -R. It's favoured in an environment where a rigorous
(perhaps daily alteration) back-up regimen is in place (so *if* a disk
were to go bad you'll only be a day (?) out in catching-up). The
individual disk is not intended for long-term storage.

They are also used where 'test' disks are routinely required.

So - for incremental daily (weekly?) back-ups and test writing, sure. For
long term archival purposes, no. I'd also suggest that CD-R's be routinely
reburned. Difficult to imagine how they justify claims of a 50 - 100 year
shelf-life on a 25 (?) yr old technology. But then you can always get your
money back... ;-)
