Please excuse the redundancy if this has been covered before, but I discovered a couple of things that may be of interest to those of you using Acard 6280M HDD controllers in your Beige computers.
Since the 6280M (along with all other IDE HDD controllers for the Beige) is actually a PCI-IDE-SCSI converter, the computer no longer sees the IDE devices as SCSI. It wouldn't mean much to me, except that there is an interesting device-tuning function built into HD Speedtools that no longer functions with IDE HDDs masquerading as SCSI. If anyone knows of another utility that provides the same functionality even with IDE HDDs showing up as SCSI, I'd appreciate a posting. The other thing is that the hacked version of DVD Player will no longer function because the Apple DVD driver extension doesn't seem to work with IDE CD/DVD players that are also masquerading as SCSI. The fix that I went with was to shell out $50 for a CD/DVD Speedtools driver, which works with SCSI CD/DVD players. I'd hate to find out that there's a shareware driver that will also accomplish this, but if there is, I'd appreciate a posting anyway. -- G-List is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
