It is possible, I believe, for an infected message to be forwarded by a Mac user to a PC user, and for that PC to become infected.
The ISP could be mistaken. It did say possible worm, not a verified one.
You are seriously mistaken if you believe there is a "relative lack of virii and worms out there." They are rampant. Macs, so far, are just relatively safe from contracting them.
Tell your wife to tell her friend that if she were really concerned about worms and viruses, she'd have a Mac, too.
