A shorted out USB hub fried the logic board via the USB ports.
Likely it's a killer hub. Give it to an enemy with a Windows system.

Uh, I have a powered USB hub attached to my G4 Sawtooth. The thought that it could short out and fry the Sawtooth is somewhat alarming. What are the chances? Thanks.

Hey, anything plugged into the system is an electrical path to the mobo. I would expect that typically such a incident would merely take out the USB interface, it's not impossible for it to take out something more vital.

This is NOT, however, a common problem with powered USB hubs, so I suspect your chances were slim. Had Larry not killed two Macs in short order (ha ha) I wouldn't have immediately suspected the USB hub.
