3. Basic laser printer -------- HP LJ1010 -------- Brother HL-2030
Hmmm...close. We've had a couple of Brother printers come in here, no problems with them so far, and one of them is that very model, used on a Mac.
However they're both less than year old...it's hard for me to say.
On the other hand, while I am a huge fan of HP printers, I hate their low end lasers.
All the HP's we've ever had hassles with have been the L or 1000 series, their 'personal' laser printers.
We have a 1200 or two around that haven't given us hassles, but I personally would shy away from their lowest end products.
A step up to the 2xxx series and you're into their low end workgroup stuff, well that gets two or three thumbs up. Good 'ol HP workhorses. Run like Mack trucks.
Of course, that's a step up in money as well..it depends on how long you're going to use it, and how much you're going to use it.
Me, I picked up a 4M off the swap list, expect it to be my printer for years, like the one at my elbow in the office. (and I literally mean that, I have an HP-shaped dent in my left elbow from cracking into it) It was heavily used when we got it, and it's run 24/7, printed thousands of pages without a peep. It needed the feed roller replaced once, as I recall it was about a $20 part.
We have a 5Si that's still going strong after nearly 10 years of being a College-wide network printer here, hundreds of thousands of pages.
Those are tough, tough printers.
