Hi, You should (nay, must!) look at the external FireWire/USB-cases of Cool Drives. They are the sexiest and smartest cases (with internal shock absorbers) I've seen so far.
Get a Maxtor 200 gig or bigger ATA hard disk, they are really cheap now, pop it in, a child can do it. The most beautiful and cost-effective method to get an external HD. I just got one.
