the last problem i had was opening pdf files. i'd click on the doc, and it would launch adobe acrobat, then acrobat would ask me if i wanted to configure this to be the default app for opening pdf files (i always click Yes) but then the next time i open another pdf i get the same dialog. wtf?
If you want to dump Adobe Reader in favor of Preview, then select any .pdf file in the Finder. Choose "File -> Get Info" in the menubar, select "Preview" in the "Open with:" pop-up menu
No way I'd replace Acrobat reader with Preview , based on my 10.2.8 version. Preview is to Acrobat (Reader) what Appleworks is to Office Word.... half-developed Apple "freeware" included with their OS. (Ok, both Preview and Acrobat are free).
What does Acrobat Reader do that Preview doesn't? It's been so long since I used Acrobat Reader for anything (at least 3 years) that I have no idea what I might be missing.

Now, back to my Appleworks comment. I use it often for basic stuff, even a spreadsheet for some invoicing, but it is what it is. Word and Excel (and the "Microsoft way") were a pain to fully learn but they really are much better full-featured apps.
I totally agree. I have both Office 2004 and AppleWorks 6, and AW6 just doesn't cut it for me, especially for spreadsheets. What I REALLY miss is Lotus Improv, which I used to use on my NeXT. I can't use AW6 for my spreadsheets, because they are multi-sheet workbooks, and AW6 doesn't read those.
