Look people, it's this simple: OS X is an operating system that is an order of magnitude more complex than OS 8/9.
This, for me and I suspect many others is the crux of the issue.
Complexity is a great help when one can use it. It is a great hindrance when you don't need it.
For me that sentence puts the finger directly on the issue.
I am older, not particularly a computer geek. My uses are primarily email, web surfing, with a little Quicken thrown in cause its easier than writing and doing a check book manually.
OS X is a great operating system. Its powerful, stable, and complex.
Its also a heck of a lot more system than I need for my uses. At the rate I use it and learn it'll be another 5-6 years before I am comfortable in and confident in my knowledge and ability to use OS X, not to mention the hours of frustration trying to figure out what I did wrong while digging through some thick manual.
What I need and I suspect others do also is a simple yet elegant Operating System that can run the apps that we actually use.
I could even see a modular system which would allow one to add "Modules" as needed to expand the system to meet ones needs.
Maybe this is a "niche" that some one can exploit to build/sell an OS to those of us with with simpler needs.
I really like the MAC platform, sort of like in my youth liking Fords over Chevys, and I dislike the PC platform particularly for its complexity.
That said I intend to stick with the MAC but I need a different solution than OS X.
Enough said,
Tom
