The (secondary) IDE channel doesn't run at more than half the (primary) Ultra-ATA 66 channel (the one intended for hard drives)--and it may only be ATA 16. Check the System Profiler. If that channel shows as ATA-4, it's 33; if ATA-3, it's 16. So, regardless of heat and ventilation, this isn't an optimal location for a server hard drive.
It's a drive solely used to store my downloaded porn and has no performance requirements. ---
Whatever configuration you decide on, I recommend leaving the solid front drive bay cover in place.
