It was not a no brainer for me. OS X will not run my favorite Backgammon program, Backgammon, created on Thursday, December 6, 1984. That program has been with me since 6.0.4 on my Plus in 1988 through 9.2.2. : ) And I am sure if someone has a 128K Mac, it will run fine on that
Also, I am in the process of giving up my favorite word processor, WriteNow created on Wednesday, Feb 9, 1994. It works in classic but has had display issues ever since OS 9.
This is NOT FAIR. They should force software developers to provide maintenance on their programs for 10 years like they do the automobile manufacturers.
That being said, I have not booted into 9 since I switched to 10.2

True, besides a couple of freezes caused by pre alpha versions of Mozilla, my systems have not crashed at all under X
If you have never seen such a controversy, then you weren't around for the howls and uproar over the switch from OS 6 to OS 7 (I remember a list of HUNDREDS of programs that were broken by moving from 6 to 7; or the rocky transition from 68K to PowerPC.)
IIRC, most of the 68k to PowerPC uproar was at vendors to update their software.
(and yes, I've been using macs since before OS 7 came out, and no, I am not now, nor have I ever been an Apple employee. I was also not a computer systems support person until ten years ago, LONG after I started using Macs.
Same here, but smaller. 1 hour a month for 5 Macs, 2 days a month for 9 pcs
However, when someone comes in and complains endlessly about this app or that app not being updated, when in fact they have been, it's perfectly reasonable to tell that person that to use the latest stuff you have to upgrade to OS X.

When you posted a long list of what OS X 'lacked' a number of people replied with either how to find that in OS X or how to find a third-party solution

Besides the Mac stuff, also how the level of discourse can be raised a few notches, then lowered back down and people still being polite. A problem being that things that would be said to a friend with a sly smile or a Wink, Wink, Nudge, Nudge, do not get translated well to the printed page and we are all guilty of that at one time or another.
