Is the ATTO UL2D SCSI card compatible with OS X in a G3 Blue & White?I Hope so, I just purchased one on ebay for my Beige. My understanding was that it IS compatible.
I've got one in my G4 Sawtooth that has been running just fine with OS X from some version of Jaguar up through 10.3.5. Obviously not the same type of machine, but it suggests the card will work in other machines as well.
Oh yeah?! This (compare above and below) is just more conflicting info. on SCSI controller cards, first the Adaptec 2940U2B and now this ATTO UL2D. I'm wondering if the folks who say they are using these cards in OS X are not sure which card they actually have or have a somewhat "modified" card AND/OR if the manufacturers of these cards don't support them in OS X (so they say they are not compatible) but they actually work in OS X.
(I know Peter has an answer, this is right up his alley. Peter where are you?)

Mike,
Unfortunately, the UL2 adapters are not compatible with OSX. The UL3S/UL3D and UL4S/UL4D adapters are compatible with OSX, and you can find information and drivers for them on our website.
I hope this helps you, but if you need more information or help, feel free to contact us again.

I submitted this post several months ago and I believe I also subsequently sent a post regarding how badly I was misinformed by Seagate, Atto and other SCSI related tech support people.
The ATTO UL2D card actually does work in OSX with the correct firmware. BUT... the correct firmware varies from machine to machine and card version to card version (so, yes, Bruce, there ARE different versions of the UL2D card). Also the firmware must be installed booted into OS 9. I found from some sources that this card likes firmware v. 1.5 in a beige. The card I have was originally an Apple OEM version and has two channels but only one internal 68 pin connector which is bus 2 and one external VHDCI 68 pin connector that is bus 1. There are solder points where the other connectors should exist but, I guess for cost savings, were not included.
The problem with this version of the UL2D card is that it wants to boot from bus 1, the external connector. So if you have an internal SCSI drive connected to the internal connector, chances are you WILL have booting issues. I actually bought an adapter and connected to the external VHDCI connector and ran it back inside to my internal SCSI drive. In general this card is a pain in the as* and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who wants to boot from it. It's not supported by anyone. It's fine if you are just storing and accessing data, though and not using it as a boot drive. Cheap and fast. The version with two available connectors per channel may be a different story. And as always with older SCSI cards on older machines, YMMV.
